The Nicest Surrender Ever

By May 1945, the war in Europe was wrapping up. The "Thousand-year Reich" was ending it's reign roughly a millennium earlier than expected, and Allied forces were pushing deep into Germany. One of those soldiers was Captain Moffat Burriss, who found himself bored to tears.

With his unit suffering more injuries from accidental gunshots, and falling off stolen horses, Burriss wanted some excitement. So on May 5th, he and a couple of his buddies hopped into a jeep and completely against orders, drove off to find some Germans.

"ROAD TRIP!"

It was around forty miles later when Burriss comically found himself and his buddies in a staring contest with around 15,000 German troops. It was difficult to imagine a more hopeless situation for the Americans who found themselves outnumbered approximately 5,000 to 1.

"300? Pussies."

Burriss however came up with a plan; he walked right up to a German captain and said he was there to accept their surrender, which was promptly met with a "Are you crazy?"

After pointing out that they could surrender to him, an American, or the enclosing Soviets (who weren't known for treating prisoners much above wale turd levels) the German captain told Burriss to wait a minute while he talked to his superiors.

After several tense minutes, the German captain returned with German Lt. General Steimer, commander of the 3rd Panzer Corps who drew his pistol and promptly handed it to Burriss in a sign of surrender.

"Well, I did Nazi that coming."

Bewildered by this sudden turn of events, and finding himself with 15,00 enemy soldiers-turned-POWs, Burriss had to drive Steimer back to American lines and explain himself, where he was scolded for disobeying orders.

However upon Burriss's offer to drive Steimer back to his German troops and reject the surrender, the Americans accepted it and avoided a large costly battle that could've cost thousands more lives. Thanks to one man's huge balls and disobeying of orders.
