The Simpsons Mystery Room

The Simpsons have been an American icon since it began airing in 1989. The family of five has been happily living at 742 Evergreen Terrace for over twenty-five years. The house itself has almost become as iconic as the show, with Bart's treehouse, the tv room, and their living room all becoming common settings for the family's antics.

The house is so famous that they even built a real version of it in Nevada. Yet despite its familiarity with most people, one thing nobody seems aware of is the secret room in the house: their rec room.

Seen here, in one of its rare appearances.

Located behind the garage, there is nothing particularly unusual or strange about the room. You can regularly see the entrance to their rec room from the kitchen. It just seems that the characters almost never go in there for some reason.

"What room?"

So how many times has it actually been seen? Twice. Twice over the course of twenty-seven years and 577 episodes.

It was first briefly seen in the episode Three Men and a Comic Book from season two when Bart, Milhouse, and Martin are in the treehouse fighting over a comic book and Homer is watching them from the room. The second time was season five's Lady Bouviet's Lover when the family can be seen crowded around the TV in the room at the beginning of the episode. Aside from that, that's practically it.

They probably avoid it due to that creepy Krusty the Klown . . . thing.

Nowadays it simply serves as the butt of inside jokes on the show about how they never go in there for reasons that we shall never know. Much like how we will never know what state Springfield is in.

  1. So I'm studying architecture, and during a very boring class I came up with the idea of drawing the Simpson's house plans. As I found many incongruences, I went to check them on google (yes, the "official" plans are on google) and so I realized the existence of this room I have no memory of at all XD
But there's another room even more mysterious in the upper floor. If you check those plans you can see an empty small room between Maggie's and the bathroom, which makes sense to be there because of the proportions of the house. But what the hell is in there?!?! Another mystery hahahah
